What is The Vic?
The Vic, also known as Grosvenor Victoria Casino, is a well-established gaming venue in London’s Leicester Square, England. Established in 1962 by Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited under the name ‘Grosvenor House’, it initially served as a luxury hotel and casino until its closure in 1983 due to financial difficulties. The building underwent several renovations before re-emerging as Grosvenor Victoria Casino, now part of The Vic (Grosvenor Victoria) Rank Group’s portfolio.
History
The Vic, or more formally known as Grosvenor Victoria Casino, began operating under the name ‘Grosvenor House’ when it first opened in 1962 on Oxford Street and later moved to its current location at Leicester Square. Its operations were suspended from 1983 to 1994 following a lengthy period of decline due to stiff competition from nearby establishments and financial difficulties.
When it reopened, Grosvenor Victoria Casino underwent extensive renovations before re-emerging as The Vic in the mid-2000s under Rank Group’s ownership after undergoing various other name changes throughout its existence. Since then, numerous efforts have been made at revamping the building to improve customer experience while maintaining an exciting environment for gamblers.
